To be meaningful for students, curriculum must be:

Based in real physical locations that provide being there experiences from which to extract the concepts and skills to be learned
Conceptually stated-knowledge and skills connected under a broad umbrella that is generalizable and transferable
Naturally integrated-the knowledge and skills needed by those who work at or visit/use the being there location

• This hands-on workshop will provide you and your team with time to develop integrated curriculum for the coming school year.

• Each day the general session highlights an important aspect of writing Highly Effective Teaching curriculum. Following general sessions are grade-level break-out sessions in which master HET practitioners assist you as you create your curriculum. In addition, associates are available to assist you until 9:00 p.m. each evening.

• This is a perfect event for grade-level teams. You may request as much work time and feedback as you need.

• Important goals for your curriculum work include: how to embed state standards in your integrated curriculum, how to develop curriculum that grows responsible citizens, and how to add enjoyment and satisfaction to your job as a teacher team.

Aspects of curriculum writing include:

How to select being there locations in which to base curriculum
How to integrate concepts with kid-grabbing components and topics of consequence
How to write conceptual key points (the big idea) and inquiries (choice activities) to provide ample opportunities for students to understand a key point
How to embed content and skills from state standards into key points and inquiries

Materials Included:

You will receive a copy of Exceeding Expectations: A User's Guide to Implementing Brain Research in the Classroom and Your Personal Handbook for Implementing the HET (formerly ITI) Model, a coaching handbook which walks you through each stage of implementation in your classroom
